What is the difference between printing with a color printer at home and printing using professional equipment?

  • Home printing is very expensive. You need to buy a photo-printer, photo paper and lots of color cartridges ($25-$45 each). An average color cartridge is claimed to be good for about 30-40 4 x 6 prints; however, the printing quality degrades from very colorful and bright prints to faded color prints and, finally, to colorless prints.
  • Home prints will not last long. All of the existing photo-printers are inkjets that print only on the surface of the paper. In approximately one year, your home printed pictures will start to fade.
  • You will not be able to share your home prints with your friends and relatives through the use of ApplePrints sharing service.
  • Unlike home printing, ApplePrints utilizes professional photo printing standards such as automated enhancing for color and sharpness. ApplePrints uses only Premium Kodak photo paper.
  • And, most importantly, you will not have all the fun that ApplePrints’ services have to offer you absolutely free.

Where do you print my photos?

The ApplePrints team is dedicated to providing you with the best website, image, and photo  finishing services located in the heart of New York City with over fifteen years of experience.

What equipment do you use to print my pictures?

ApplePrints uses state-of-the-art Kodak professional photo-finishing equipment, so all prints are automatically enhanced for color and sharpness.

Do you offer matte finish prints?

Yes, we do offer matte finish. We at ApplePrints realize that a lot of people prefer their pictures to be on matte finish paper, but only a few online digital photo-printing companies offer this option, so we have added the option to our services. All sizes are available on matte finish paper. Please see ordering to learn how you can order matte finish prints.

What kind of photo paper will be used for my prints?

ApplePrints is using only high quality Kodak paper to print your images. Our prints are durable and colors will not fade away over time just like traditional 35mm prints.

What is image resolution?

Image resolution is the number of pixels in the image. The more pixels that are in the image, the higher the resolution of the image. The higher the resolution of the image, the bigger the file size available and the better the image quality. With high resolution, you can get better quality on bigger print sizes. Remember, your pictures may look perfect when you look at them on your computer, but not as clear and sharp on the actual print. This happens when an image with a low resolution is enlarged and its details appear in little blocks that become visible after the enlargement.

What is image compression?

By setting the type of compression on your camera, you can control the size of the file. However, the higher the amount of compression, the lower the image quality. For the best printing results, we recommend that you adjust, if possible, your digital camera to low compression and high resolution.

If I always take pictures with high resolution and low compression setting on my camera, will I get the best possible pictures?

No, there are a lot of other factors that may affect the quality of your pictures such as light, clarity, focus, distance and the quality of your equipment.

What are minimum resolution requirements?

Your images must have the following minimum resolution:

Print Size

Resolution

Wallet size - 4 2x3 prints (glossy or matte)

640 x 427

4 x 6   prints (glossy or matte)

640 x 427

5 x 7   prints (glossy)

800 x 571

8 x 10 prints (glossy)

1024 x 819

What is cropping?

When taking your pictures, the dimensions of your images are usually not the same as the standard print sizes that are available for print. Therefore, all prints get cropped (trimmed) before being printed so they can fit the paper size. If you want to make sure that important details of the image located close to edge do not get cut off, you can crop your images yourself by clicking on Adjust Picture bar and choosing cropping option.

What do four green dots on the right side of a thumbnail mean?

Green dots next to the thumbnail indicate whether or not an image meets the required minimum resolution for a selected print size as follows:

4 dots are green  – the resolution of the images is good for all available sizes

3 dots are green  – the resolution of the images is good for 8 x 10 and below

2 dots are green  – the resolution of the images is good for 5 x 7 and below

1 dot is green       – the resolution of the images is good for 4 x 6 and wallet size

All dots are gray  – not recommended for print
